Common Questions

I've never had a root canal before. I've heard nothing but bad things about them.

Actually, having a root canal is just like having a filling at your dentist's office.  Modern technology has made the procedure quite comfortable.  Root canal treatment is all that we do at our office so we are experts at the procedure and at making your experience as pleasant as possible.  Our goal is for you to be able to tell those that might speak negatively about root canal therapy that what they are saying is just not true.

I am worried about having a root canal because I am hard to numb.

Our doctors always take the time to assure the patient that no treatment will take place without being totally numb and without being totally in control throughout the treatment process.  Our doctors take pride in the fact that our patients are always in total comfort throughout their treatment.

After the root canal, will I have more pain?

You may experience some soreness as your body takes over to calm the area that has been irritated around the tooth.  Think of having a root canal like removing a splinter in your finger.  Once you remove the splinter, the source of pain, it still takes some time for the irritated area around the splinter to totally heal.

How long will I be numb?

For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.

Will I need to return to your office for follow-ups after the procedure is finished?

Yes, for most root canal treatments, we recommend that patients return to the office 1 year after the procedure was finished. Our office will send a reminder notice to you when you are due for a recall appointment.
